Thanks!

Mon Dec 29, 2008, 4:35 PM
I got my first Daily Deviation today, so I'm feeling pretty thrilled at the moment. Thanks to *MoonsongWolf for suggesting Conflict Diamonds - Part 1 and to ^NunoDias for featuring it. It's great to see that so many people understand and support the message, so thankyou to everyone who has commented or added it to their favourites - I was in the process of thanking everyone individually and then I got some 'Internal Server Error' so I apologise if I didn't get around to you, but just know that I am very appreciative. :)

Hi Delt4
I was a little bit busy, I'have finished two days ago my website for Palestine.
[link]
The idea is to leave a message with a photo or a picture about the israeli occupation and the palestinian suffering. The real battle is the communication battle in Europe, USA, CANADA and AUSTRALIA. When in those countries the citizen opinion will be sensitive, so we can consider that things can change.

hey got a question.. do you use a flash in most of your photo shoots or do you get enough light with the stands that you set up? dunno why but I'm always trying to avoid using the flash

I use Elinchrom strobes, which are off-camera flash lights - so you put them on stands, hook them up to the camera with a hot shoe and when you press the shutter button it triggers them to flash. On-camera flash (the built in ones) are usually pretty horrible because they fire directly at the model, but there are some neat tricks you can do with them if you can't afford off-camera flashes. :3 (Which I can explain if you like. =P)

yeah i don't even have a good camera.. I've been borrowing my dad's ay. Sure explain away!! happy to hear em

Well (and this is what I did before I had my own lights) if you use use reflective objects (mirrors, foil, mixing bowls, etc.) and direct the light so it's not projected straight at the model, you can get some cool effects. That's how I ended up with these shots [link]

So if you're next to a wall and have a small mirror, you can use the mirror to reflect the light against the wall, which will then reflect onto the model. Another technique is to make a tube/hose out of aluminum foil, shaped like a C. If you put one opening in front of the flash (so the other opening is pointing back at you) and you put a mixing bowl near the other opening and point it back at the model, it can look kind of cool.

It's all about finding ways to redirect your light, so it's not front on. :3

thanks man, this helps a lot! I'll try and come up with something for my next photo shoot :D :horns:
